Way To Go Meeting Minutes, Jan 16, 2023
17 of us met in the main hall of the QCC, and 6 over Zoom, which Matthew kindly facilitated. Carol W chaired.
Sally Houghton gave a presentation on “Estate and Personal Planning Documents”
Sally explained in ordinary language the usefulness of the Power of Attorney document and Representation Agreement while we are alive, and a Will after our death. She outlined what takes place when a person’s health declines or they die without this preparation. Although these documents can be done without the help of a professional, a person such as herself is trained to help you determine what your goals are, and ensure what you intend is written clearly. This was followed by a dynamic question and answer session. We could have listened to Sally much longer; she will be invited back. The brochure she handed out is attached.
Caregivers Support Group
Denise Chisholm and Jessica Hammersmark, facilitators for the Quadra Island Caregivers Support Group introduced themselves and Ann McLean, who started the group.
Caregivers meet to share their concerns, offer support to each other, and discover new ways and resources to solve problems. Without self-care, the increased demands on a caregiver take their toll. The group is also helpful to those who want to have that difficult conversation with a parent or partner about needing extra care, or those who want to support family members who are care-giving a loved one here, or hundreds of miles away.
Sponsored by Quadra Circle and facilitated by these qualified volunteer facilitators, the support group meets Mondays, twice a month, from 1-2:30 pm, at the Quadra Island Community Centre (Room #1). The next scheduled meeting dates are Jan 23rd, Feb 6th and 27th, Mar 13th and 27th.

In The Parlour Documentary
Several people have viewed this documentary and after comments from them, a discussion followed about how to best share it with the community. There is a cost to show it to a wider audience, and no additional cost for home viewings. An intimate setting followed by a discussion would be ideal, but require significant organization. Some people noted their homes were large enough to accommodate 10 or so people; Marilyn, Joyce, Matthew, Betsy. The committee of Matthew, Ford, Melanie and Margaret will discuss this.
Community Connections Fair Feb 11th 11:00 – 3:00
A fair showcasing what Quadra offers in the way of volunteer organizations. Carol Foort, Nancy B and Margaret will organize this.
Natural Burial Section of Quadra Cemetery
In 2021 Way To Go put forward a list of requests, and were hoping that with time and in working toward a better relationship with the QICS, some of these wishes would be acknowledged and discussed. No progress has been made. Margaret asked who would like to be on the new committee. Matthew, Sulyn, Carol W, Vic, Marilyn, and Margaret will meet to work on this challenge.
Mail List
Sally put us onto another server, so hopefully the challenges we experienced sending out our email reminder for this meeting will not be repeated.
